THIS CLASS INCLUDES A ONE-MONTH HACKPGH MEMBERSHIP!
This two-session woodworking class will aim to educate students on basic concepts and safe use of HackPGH's 4x8 Forest Scientific CNC Router. Each Student will design and carve their own wooden sign, utilizing Vectric VCarve design software.
Structure: This class will have two required group sessions - one focused on CNC Operations and the second focused on CNC Design.
Students are required to schedule one-on-one time with the instructor to review design files and demonstrate proper tool usage prior to being certified for independent use of HackPGH's machine.
Students will gain a month of 24/7 access to HackPGH, beginning on the date of the first class. Students may use this month of membership to utilize the makerspace's facilities, and have the full benefits of a HackPGH Member. This includes access to to our computer lab, which has Vectric VCarve. We also can provide access to VCarve for download on personal computers.
We urge students to bring additional projects to work on at HackPGH during this membership period, and we support those who wish to continue their membership after class completion.
Date and time: Two (required) class sessions will be held: Tuesday, March 5th from 6pm-9pm and Monday, March 19th from 6pm-9pm.
Instructor Office Hours: Optional and by appointment.
Requirements: No experience needed, but basic computer literacy required. All supplies and safety equipment will be provided.
Before independent use of the space, non-member students must complete our standard HackPGH tour and orientation to cover safety and logistics pertaining to the space.

Cost: $160 (includes materials, instruction, and one-month HackPGH Membership) No-shows will not be refunded. If you need to cancel, please contact HackPGH at least 72 hours before the class date. You must register in advance to attend this class.

Note: There is no special ticket price for members because the class includes one month of membership. If you are an active HackPGH member, we will extend your existing membership for an additional 30 days.
