Are you interested in character design and 3D textile art? Would you like to learn (or have your child learn) the basics of hand sewing? Join us at HackPGH for our finger puppet-making class, where we'll be creating unique character designs and bringing them to life in the form of finger puppets!

During this fun, kid-friendly session, students will become accustomed to beginner hand-sewing techniques and different textiles. They will then dress and decorate their finger puppets using a variety of different materials.  Participants will have the ability to come up with stories using their created characters as well as have videos of their finger puppets uploaded to HackPGH's YouTube and/or Facebook pages!

Class materials (all provided, but please see italicized note):

  • Poly-fil
  • Felt
  • Fabrics (students are welcome to, but not required to bring pre-loved fabrics and other bits of haberdashery to make the outfits for their puppets! We have plenty of buttons and ribbons at HackPGH to spare!)
  • Fabric paint markets or fabric paints
  • Sewing needles and thread
  • Yarn

Date and Time(s): Saturday, April 13th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Requirements: No experience required.

Cost: $40 for non-members, $35 for HackPGH members. Note: No-shows will not be refunded. If you have to cancel, please contact HackPGH 72 hours before the class date!
