Welcome to Intro to Laser Crafting! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of operating HackPGH's laser cutter and the basics of designing and working from templates in LightBurn. Students will choose a unique wooden puzzle from an assortment of designs, each demonstrating different core laser crafting techniques. Thereafter, participants will be ready to get to work on their own independent laser craft projects.

Itinerary:
Part one: Demonstration and Choosing Templates
Our instructor will showcase the standard operating procedures for the laser cutter, then invite students to follow along and create one each of their own from several provided templates.

Part two: Guided Workshop:
After the demonstration, students will learn the basics of executing simple customization tasks in our laser design software in order to inscribe their own puzzles with initials or other graphics.

Part three: Open Workshop:
Finally, students will be provided several more templates to choose from (or use as a starting point), given the opportunity to personalize their designs in LightBurn, and reserve a time slot during which they will operate the laser on their own. Our instructor will be present throughout the duration of open workshop hours to provide one-on-one guidance and answer questions.

Prerequisites: No experience required. All tools and equipment will be provided.

Age Requirement: 13+, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Day and time: Wednesday, September 18th from 6:30pm-9:00pm.

Cost: $85 for non-members, $75 for HackPGH members. No-shows will NOT be refunded. If you must cancel, please notify HackPGH at least 72 hours before the class start date! Attendance and participation are required for training clearance at instructor's discretion.
