This is a beginner class on the fundamentals of woodworking. If you have absolutely no woodworking experience, then this is the class for you. It is designed to give the student a foundation for their journey into the hobby and profession of woodworking. Topics covered will include identifying lumber, measuring and cutting, safe operation of various woodworking equipment, basic joints, applying finish, and more. The class will also collectively help to dimension and cut down stock lumber to gain familiarity with shop equipment while learning woodshop safety and developing proper technique(s).
Structure: This class consists of one intensive group session on the above topics. A break for a takeout lunch will be taken during the session. Please notify HackPGH if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions.
Date and time: Sunday, March 2nd, 2025 from 10:30am-4:30pm Lunch will be provided!
Requirements: No woodworking experience needed. All supplies and safety equipment will be provided. Please remove dangling jewelry, wear long pants, wear closed-toed shoes, and tie any long hair back for your safety!
