    This woodworking class will educate students on the basic concepts and safe use of woodshop equipment, while crafting a window planter box for your spring flowers/herbs. Students will leave with their own box and an understanding and safety training on the following equipment and skills:

    • Table, Miter, & Bandsaws
    • Joiner
    • Planer
    • Drill press
    • Combination & Orbital Sanders
    • Router Table
    • Applying finish

    Structure: This class will have one group session, where the entire cohort will work through constructing their own window planter boxes. The instructor will also offer optional "office hour" sessions (by appointment) to aid students with completing their projects and provide further guidance. 

    Class date & time:  Saturday, May 10th 2025 from 10:00am-3:00pm. Lunch will be provided, so please advise if you have any food sensitivities or allergies.

    Requirements
    : No woodworking experience needed. All supplies and safety equipment will be provided. Please wear closed-toed shoes, remove any dangling jewelry, and tie back any long hair.

    Cost: $150 ($160 for Non-Members).  Price includes materials, lunch, instruction, and an optional office hour session with the instructor.     Immerse Yourself in a World of Adventure with Dungeons & Dragons at HackPGH! Drop in for one session, or join us for many!

    Have you ever wanted to step into the shoes of a hero and embark on epic quests? Curious about how to play the world’s most famous tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons? Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or new to the game, this campaign is for you! Join us at HackPGH for a bi-monthly, in-person D&D campaign that’s beginner-friendly and open to all experience levels. In HackPGH's ongoing campaign, you’ll learn the fundamentals of character creation, role-playing, and tactical combat as you journey through a world filled with danger, mystery, and magic. 

    The details of the game sessions include:

    • Creating unique characters
    • Understanding the core mechanics of D&D
    • Building strategies for combat and problem-solving
    • Collaborative storytelling with other players
    • Exploring rich narrative-driven adventures

    Requirements: No prior experience needed. All materials, including character sheets, dice, and rulebooks, will be provided.

    Dates and Times: Bi-monthly on Saturdays, this session will take place on Saturday, May 10th from 12:00pm-3:30pm

    Cost: $20 to drop-in for this session. Drinks and takeout food provided. Want to join our campaign for the long-run? Contact us and we'll set up a campaign registration (billed monthly).     Description: This class is an introduction to the basics of sewing with woven fabrics. Students will learn basic machine operation, sewing seams, corners, a basic zipper installation, and making a simple strap for a bag using the Jalie Galaxie Jet pattern. Whether you have never used a sewing machine or need a refresher from your home ec class decades ago, this class is right for you! Each participant will make their own Jet travel pouch to take home at the end of class. No experience required. All materials will be provided.

    Cost: $55 for non-members $50 for HackPGH members. Be advised, no-shows will NOT be refunded. Please notify us if you cannot attend the class at least 48 hours before the class date! If payment is not received 72 hours before class time, your registration will be cancelled and we will move to the wait list! 

    Date and Time: Sunday, April 11th 2025 from 1:00pm-4:00pm  Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and bottled water are all available from our coffee bar during breaks. Other snacks and drinks are available from our vending machines.

    Have you already taken an intro woodshop class? Want to tackle something more than another cutting board? This class will educate students on more intermediate to advanced woodworking concepts  and use of equipment.  Students will leave with their own custom frame made from a selection of hardwoods, and gain more advanced techniques using the following equipment and skills:

    Structure: This class will have two (2) weeknight group sessions, where the entire cohort will work through constructing their own picture frame. The instructor will offer optional "office hour" sessions by appointment to aid students with completing their projects and provide further guidance. However, students are encouraged to join HackPGH and utilize the makerspace at their own convenience to independently use the woodshop and other shop areas such as our CNC, welding bench, 3D printers, laser cutter, computer lab, Soft Arts, and more!

    Class dates & times:  Attendance is required at both sessions. 

    1. Tuesday, May 13th 2025 from 6:30pm-9:30pm; AND
    2. Wednesday, May 14th 2025 from 6:30pm-9:30pm

    Video Editing for Social Media

    Description:

    This class is an introduction to the basics of editing and video production as they relate to simple social media productions.

    Peter will explore ideas like the importance of timing and editing for time constraints, the "beat", and rules of editing.

    We will use Premier and After Effects hands on to produce a short video as an example.

    Learn to solder and take home something fun and functional! 

    Description: This class is an introduction to soldering for the complete beginner or those who are feeling a "bit rusty" with their soldering skills.  Beebo will take students through the process of building a colorful alarm clock that can also display the date and temperature!  Each participant will take their own clock home at the end of the class. No experience required, and all materials such as soldering irons, solder, and other tools will be provided. 

    Cost: $50 for non-members, $45 for HackPGH members.

    You must pay at time of registration to hold your spot!
