  Video Editing for Social Media

  Description:

  This class is an introduction to the basics of editing and video production as they relate to simple social media productions.

  Peter will explore ideas like the importance of timing and editing for time constraints, the "beat", and rules of editing.

  We will use Premier and After Effects hands on to produce a short video as an example.

  Cost: $70 for non-members, $60 for HackPGH members. Be advised, no-shows will NOT be refunded. Please notify us if you cannot attend the class at least 48 hours before the class date!

  Date and Time: Tuesday, March 18th from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and bottled water are all available from our coffee bar during breaks. Other snacks and drinks are available from our vending machines.

  Description: This class is an introduction to the basics of sewing with woven fabrics. Students will learn basic machine operation, sewing seams, corners, a basic zipper installation, and making a simple strap for a bag using the Jalie Galaxie Jet pattern. Whether you have never used a sewing machine or need a refresher from your home ec class decades ago, this class is right for you! Each participant will make their own Jet travel pouch to take home at the end of class. No experience required. All materials will be provided.

  Cost: $55 for non-members $50 for HackPGH members. Be advised, no-shows will NOT be refunded. Please notify us if you cannot attend the class at least 48 hours before the class date! If payment is not received 72 hours before class time, your registration will be cancelled and we will move to the wait list!

  Learn the basics of HackPGH's CNC with Andre! Topics covered: 

  • Planning, designing, and generating G-Code using VCarve Pro software
  • Proper use of our 4'x8' MakerFab CNC
  • Safety, Maintenance, and Cleanup techniques

  Date and time: Tuesday, March 25th from 6:30pm-9:30pm

  Requirements: Active HackPGH Membership required. No experience necessary. 

  Safety Information: Safety glasses and ear protection will be provided. Wear closed-toed shoes and tie any long hair back for your safety! 

  VCarve Invites: After completing this training session, participants will receive an invite and code to join HackPGH's VCarve Makerspace account. This will allow members to download access the VCarve Trial software at home. Designs can easily be uploaded to the makerspace account, then accessed and edited later on the five VCarve Pro computers at the shop (CNC laptop and the four computer lab "unit" PCs).

  Join us at HackPGH for an intensive but fun and informative MIG welding class, intended for complete beginners and/or those looking to brush up on rusty skills while building something fun and functional. 

  Structure: This class provides the foundation for basic fabrication techniques using one of HackPGH's two new welders: the Miller MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welder! Students will learn to tack-weld into place and fully weld steel. Each student will make and take home an industrial lamp made from heavy duty chain with an Edison-style bulb. Several breaks will be offered throughout the day, including a long break for a group takeout lunch. Lunch will be provided, but please advise if you have any allergies or food restrictions!  

  Requirements: No experience required.  Ages 16+, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

  Safety requirements: Work boots preferred.  No open toed shoes (canvas is acceptable, but no cloth athletic shoes). Long hair should be tied back, and and we recommend wearing natural fiber clothing (denim, cotton, etc.). 
  

  Date & Time:  Saturday, April 5th from 11:00am-5:00pm

  Cost:  $165 for non-members, $150 for HackPGH Members

  Learn to solder and take home something fun and functional! 

  Description: This class is an introduction to soldering for the complete beginner or those who are feeling a "bit rusty" with their soldering skills.  Beebo will take students through the process of building a colorful alarm clock that can also display the date and temperature!  Each participant will take their own clock home at the end of the class. No experience required, and all materials such as soldering irons, solder, and other tools will be provided. 

  Cost: $50 for non-members, $45 for HackPGH members. Be advised, no-shows will NOT be refunded. Please notify us if you cannot attend the class at least 48 hours before the class date! 

  Date and Time: Thursday, April 10th from 6:30pm-9:30pm.  Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and bottled water are all available from our coffee bar during breaks. Other snacks and drinks are available from our vending machines.
